TAW Automotive (formerly Tommy's Autoworks): your neighborhood alternative to the dealership

Tommy’s Autoworks opened in Gainesville in 1977 and served the community for generations. After decades in the automotive business, Tommy retired and sold Tommy’s Autoworks to new ownership. That company continued operating under the Tommy’s Autoworks name for several years before ultimately going out of business.

When Matthew Edwards, who worked next door, learned the business was closing, he saw more than an empty automotive shop. He saw longtime employees—including members of Tommy’s family—facing the sudden loss of their jobs and an uncertain future.

Matthew purchased the shop equipment, brought members of the former Tommy’s Autoworks team aboard, and established TAW Automotive as a new and independently owned business.

TAW Automotive is not Tommy’s Autoworks, is not a continuation of the former company, and is not owned by Tommy or members of Tommy’s family. The former company retained the Tommy’s Autoworks name after it ceased operations, which is why our new business operates as TAW Automotive.

What TAW Automotive does carry forward are experienced people who have spent years serving Gainesville drivers. By creating TAW Automotive, Matthew was able to keep members of the longtime shop family working together while giving them a fresh start under new, independent ownership.
